Distinguished and Famous people from Clarence
🧭 Robert Knopwood
Clergyman and diarist Robert Knopwood owned land at Clarence Plains, now Rokeby, and is buried at St Matthew's church there. Arriving with David Collins' expedition, he served as both cleric and magistrate during the early colonial period. His diaries became an important record of events and everyday life, although his official roles also placed him within the colony's harsh systems of authority. The Rokeby property and grave provide Clarence's specific connection with a man whose written observations continue to be used by historians.
