Clarence Family

From free library sessions and playgroups to holiday care, youth activities and specialist family support, Clarence families can find practical options for different ages and circumstances. Explore opportunities in Rosny Park, Howrah, Mornington, Bellerive and surrounding suburbs, alongside nearby and statewide services that support local families.

✨ Play, movement and shared activities

Rosny Library – early years and children’s activities

Free activities at Rosny Library give children several ways to join in. Rock and Rhyme brings parents and carers together with their babies, Saturday Storytime is designed for children aged three to five, and LEGO Club welcomes ages five to 11. Each session is listed separately by Libraries Tasmania, and bookings may be required, so check the individual event before attending.

Clarence Gymsports – Kindergym

Walking children up to four years old can explore playful movement activities alongside a parent or carer at Kindergym. Clarence Gymsports provides a dedicated Clarence class booking pathway, with sessions held at 400 Cambridge Road, Mornington. As adults participate with their children, it is an active option for shared play rather than drop-off care.

Play Howrah

Playgroup Tasmania lists this organisation-led community playgroup for families looking to meet and play locally. Play Howrah meets on Wednesdays from 9.30am to 11.30am at 3 Lorne Crescent, Howrah. Confirm current session arrangements before making your first visit.

Clarence Aquatic Centre – School Holiday Water Activities

Children can enjoy water mats, pool noodles, beach balls and an inflatable volleyball net during weekday school-holiday activities at the Montagu Bay centre. Activities run between 10am and 2pm. Casual pool entry prices apply, but there is no extra activity fee.

📅 Holiday, school-age and early learning care

Clarence Children’s Services – Holiday Care Program

School-holiday care is available from sites at Lindisfarne and Montagu Bay Primary Schools and Alma Street, Bellerive. The City of Clarence program combines excursions, games, arts and crafts, sport and outdoor activities, with care operating from 8am to 6pm. Families need to provide morning and afternoon tea, lunch and clothing suited to the planned activities.

Clarence Children’s Services – Before and After School Care

Primary school children from Kindergarten to Grade 6 can access supervised before- and after-school activities at services across Howrah, Geilston Bay, Lindisfarne, Montagu Bay, Cambridge, Rokeby and Bellerive. Indoor and outdoor activities are complemented by quiet areas for rest or homework. Enrolment requires immunisation records, as well as relevant medical, behavioural or court-order documents where applicable.

Clarence Family Day Care

Registered educators provide small-group care in home-based settings for children up to 13 years. The scheme operates across Clarence and southern Tasmania and advises that vacancies are currently available within the municipality. Families can ask about educator availability and whether they may be eligible for the Child Care Subsidy.

Rosny Early Learning

Children aged eight months to five years can access early education and care in age-based rooms for eight months to two years, two to three years, and three to five years. Play and learning spaces include gardens, a sandpit, room for bike riding and undercover outdoor areas.

Corpus Christi OSHC

CatholicCare Tasmania runs before-school, after-school and vacation care at Corpus Christi Catholic School in Bellerive. Its child-led program is available to all families, rather than only those enrolled at the school. Eligible families may receive help with fees through the Child Care Subsidy.

🌟 Young people and parent support

City of Clarence Youth Services

Young people can take part in outreach, recreation, pop-ups, school-holiday activities and school-based workshops delivered across Clarence. The Youth Network Advisory Group is open to ages 12–24. In Rosny Park, Youth Assist provides free, confidential information to young people and parents about education, employment, accommodation, Centrelink and access to emergency funds; counselling may be arranged by appointment. A youth centre also operates in Rokeby.

Tresillian TAS BUB Parent’s Help Line

Tasmanian parents of babies and toddlers can speak with child and family health nurses about sleep, feeding and development. The free statewide line operates daily from 7am to 11pm on 1300 827 282. Tresillian also offers virtual consultations for families in Tasmania.

Relationships Australia Tasmania – Parenting Separately Program

Parents, grandparents and carers navigating separation can access individual sessions and group workshops focused on children’s wellbeing, communication, conflict and co-parenting. The program is free, requires no referral and is delivered in nearby Hobart as well as Launceston.

❤ Carer, youth health and family violence support

Carers Tasmania and Care2Serve

Statewide assistance is available to unpaid carers supporting a family member or friend with disability, mental ill health, a chronic or life-limiting condition, alcohol or other drug dependence, frailty or age-related needs. Informal kinship carers of children are also included. Care2Serve, the organisation’s service-delivery arm, provides Tasmanian Carer Gateway services.

headspace Hobart

Young people aged 12–25 from Southern Tasmania can access free support for mental health, alcohol and other drug concerns, sexual health, and work or study needs. No referral is required, although waiting periods may apply. The nearby Hobart centre is wheelchair friendly and is not a crisis service.

Family Violence Counselling and Support Service (FVCSS)

This statewide Tasmanian Department of Health service supports children, young people and adults affected by family violence. Voluntary and free assistance includes information, counselling, referrals, advocacy, support and therapeutic group programs. Call 1800 608 122 between 9am and midnight Monday to Friday, or 4pm and midnight on weekends and public holidays. Appointments may be offered outside the Hobart office in other locations.

✅ Practical checks before you go

  • Confirm age and participation rules: activities range from baby sessions to youth programs, and some require a parent or carer to join in.
  • Book or enrol early: library events, care programs and organised activities may require advance booking, enrolment records or supporting documents.
  • Ask about accessibility: contact the provider before visiting if your child or family member needs physical access, sensory adjustments or other participation support.
  • Check current costs and subsidies: some activities are free, while care and pool entry may carry fees. Child Care Subsidy eligibility depends on individual circumstances.
  • Review session details: schedules, vacancies, activity locations and holiday programs can change, so check the official provider page before setting out.
